More than 100 lower swing bolsters were taken out of service, repaired, tested and returned to the customer for further service. After repair the weld areas were prepared and sprayed with white contrast paint so that any discontinuity would show against it, then examined by magnetic particle testing using the yoke technique, covering the structural welds and the bracket attachments.
